Americans Support Masks & Vaccine Requirements In Schools

Overall, just under 60% of respondents in a new Associated Press NORC Public Affairs Center poll said they support the requirement to wear masks for students and teachers.

A similar percentage said they also support the requirement to immunize eligible teachers and students. But fewer than four in ten Republicans said they supported the requirement for students and teachers to wear masks, compared with more than eight in ten Democrats.

As COVID19 cases rise across the country, schools and school boards have, in effect, become a point of no foundation in the mask and vaccine debate, often fueled by politicians seeking to take advantage of the culture wars. Schools will open across the country in the coming weeks, but there is no consensus on how to keep classrooms safe, which raises questions and conflicts among teachers, parents, and home councils.

Most states allow school districts to establish their mask-wearing policies, but some Republican governors have banned the requirement to wear masks in schools, prompting local school districts to challenge the rules until children under 12 are eligible for vaccinations.

According to experts, the best way to keep them safe at school is to use all the tools available, including social distancing, physical exposure, masking, ventilation, and vaccinating others who are eligible.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend universalizing face masks in schools for teachers and students. In some of the country’s largest school districts, students will be required to wear masks and vaccinate teachers, although often teachers can be screened weekly if they are not vaccinated.

For example, New York City said Monday that all teachers and public school staff would have to receive at least the first dose of vaccine by September 27 without testing, but sanctions have yet to be announced.

California will also require all public school staff to be vaccinated against COVID19 or undergo routine screening. The Washington state recently said that teachers must be vaccinated or they risk being fired without testing.

A poll published on Monday showed that 59 percent of Americans support the immunization requirements of teachers. A mission to vaccinate eligible students is extremely rare, but an AP survey found that 55% of respondents said they would support the mission to vaccinate eligible students 12 years of age or older.

However, most parents continue to object to the instructions given to students. Only 42 percent of parents said they support the requirement to vaccinate their students.

A national survey was conducted on August 12-16 among 1,729 adults. The sampling margin is 3.2 percentage points. If many schools have a student vaccination policy. While many school districts and states have immunization requirements for teachers and staff, including large school districts such as New York City and states such as Washington and California, student immunizations are still rare.

Culver City, California, announced Friday that all eligible students will be required to receive the Covid19 vaccine, which AP says is considered the first school district to make such a request. On Monday, the FDA approved the entire PfizerBioNTech vaccine, which could pave the way for new vaccine requirements.
