The Democratically-controlled House today approved President Joe Biden’s $1.9 Trillion relief package early today. This bill is one of the most talked-about bills in the newly established President Biden’s administration.
President Biden Will Address 1.9 Trillion Covid-19 Relief Bill After Approval
This bill is seen as a key step that will provide millions of Americans $1400 stimulus payment. It will also ramp up the vaccination drive and it will extend unemployment aid by the summer months.
The bill is given the name American Rescue Plan. No Republicans voted for the bill. But, two Democrats voted against the bill. These two representatives include Kurt Schrader and Jared Golden.
The measure will now head to the senate, where it may have to face a rocky path in an evenly divided chamber. As per many people, no senate Republicans will support the bill. The reason they will give is the size of the bill and the scope. Thus, President Biden will have to count on every 50 Democrat senators and the tie-breaker vote from Kamala Harris.
As per the information from White House, President Biden will also discuss the American rescue Plan bill at the White House before flying to his home Delaware for the weekend.
The package of the bill aims to provide relief to businesses, governments and Millions of Americans whose lives have been upended by the virus crisis. Now the bill will move to senates for the final voting.
The first voting was largely on the party-lines in the Democratic-controlled chamber. Thus, the bill gave President Biden his first major legislative victory since entering office on January 20.
Most Republicans opposed the bill as they say that the cost of the measure can easily cover the cost of the vaccine and other medical supplies to combat the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The package will also provide an additional $1400 direct payment to individual and emergency financial aid to households, small businesses, and local as well as the state government.
It will also offer emergency unemployment benefits and tax breaks to the lower wage earners and families with children would also be funded through the relief bill. The businesses have been severely impacted by the pandemic. Thus, the bill also aims to offer support to businesses. For example, the restaurant and Airlines industry will also receive the financial relief.
As per the recent announcement, the federal minimum hourly wage increased from $7.25 to $15 per hour. The proposal was declined as democrats failed to make it in the final senate version of the bill. The parliamentarians in the senate will also discuss the effectiveness of the bill and they will decide accordingly.
The decision by Senate parliamentarian Elizabetn MavDonough forced Democrats to seek another path for the minimum wage proposal. Democrat leaders are trying to reassure progressive lawmakers and they will make efforts to increase the minimum wage.
The relief bill will now go in an evenly divided 100-member senate where Democratic vice president Kamala Harris will have the tie-breaking vote. People of American can only hope for the best as the bill is highly futuristic.
