Cases Of Covid Fall, But Problems Arise As Winter Looms

Case counts of COVID-19 have several schools all over the US in order to relieve their mask rules, but over the last few weeks deaths have taken place nationally, and in some rural hospitals, signs of strain and cold weather are on the increase.

Since the Delta rise in mid-September, the number of new cases has declined nationally. The US estimates that 73,000 new cases per day are new, less than half of Sept. 13’s nearly 173,000.

And since the beginning of September, the number of Americans in the COVID-19 hospital has fallen by around half to about 47,000.

In Florida, if there are any more incentives, the mask mandate of Miami-Dade County could be lowered until the end of October.

After a state vaccination threshold hit a high school outside Boston was the first school in Massachusetts to create an optional mask. With about 95% of eligible students inoculated at Hopkinton High, school leaders have decided to enable vaccinated students and employees to go maskless for three weeks from November 1.

Nevertheless, there are some disturbing indicators, including the onset of cold weather that sends people to areas where the virus can spread more easily.

In November the influential COVID-19 forecast model of the University of Washington is provisionally increasing infections and hospitalizations with required reduced use of masks in much of the US.

In addition, after a decline that began in late September, a COVID-19 death per day began again. It’s about 1,700 deaths a day and about 1,500 deaths two weeks ago.

Hospitals cope with more patients than at any other point in the pandemic in sparsely populated Wyoming which has one of the lowest rates of vaccination in the nation.

“This is like an area of war,” said Casper Star-Tribune public health officer Dr. Mark Dowell, to the health board in the county. “The ICU’s overwhelmed.”

In Wyoming, the vaccine was not received by a vast majority of hospitalized patients, and the state vaccine rate was only about 43 percent. Lower ranks are only in West Virginia.

A man waited for a bed in rural Minnesota for two days and died later. Bob Cameron, 87, had taken serious gastrointestinal bleeding and COVID-19 to his hometown hospital in Hallock. Officers in a larger center were looking for space.

The blood came out of the hospital and the state troops drove 130 miles (209 km) with new units, but after the surgery, his condition deteriorated and on Oct. 13 he died, the Minneapolis Tribune reported.

‘Of course, we can’t say for sure that he would have survived when he got to the ICU bed early, but we just feel in our hearts that he’d have.’

During the 3-week span this month, Minnesota rural hospitals looked after more COVID-19 patients than Minneapolis-St Paul, the state’s main urban center.

Colorado’s stress on hospitals forced another county last week to reestablish a mask term for indoor care, reports the Denver Post. Almost 80% of COVID-19 patients are unvaccinated in Colorado hospitals.
