The Rising Number Of Covid-19 Cases Will Lead To An Increase In Death Rates In The U.S.

The new strain of coronavirus, delta variant, is spreading across the US like a wildfire. Experts have warned about the huge number of Covid-19 deaths.

The Rising Number Of Covid-19 Cases Will Lead To An Increase In Death Rates In The U.S.

According to the data by John Hopkins University, around 19,455 cases have been recorded, which is about a 47% increase. The major five hotspots will be Florida, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, and Nevada, said Dr Jonathan Reiner, CNN Medical Analyst. She further added that Missouri will face the maximum number of deaths as ICUs are filled. She also commented on the benefits of vaccines and said that the vaccines are working well against the virus. However, deaths will continue till three to four weeks, and the mortality rate will be much higher.

The Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, has about 91% of the patients in ICU on life support, and mostly these are in the age group of 20-40s. The rise in the number of patients on ventilators had increased from last year, which was 40-50%. This is the major concern expressed by Erik Fredrick, Chief Administrative Officer to CNN.

According to CDC data, 48% of the population have been fully vaccinated; however, the vaccination is much lower in few states. States like Alabama, Arkansas, Wyoming, Louisiana, and Mississippi have less than 35% of the fully vaccinated population.

Experts are in favour of vaccines. They believe that vaccines can stop the spread of the deadly virus. Dr Gigi El-Bayomui, Professor of Medicine George Washington University School of Medicine, advised to put restrictions in the places where vaccination is mandatory, like Southern states and to lose restrictions in states with 75% or above vaccination rates.

Dr Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Disease, has shown concern over the death toll. Till now, there have been a loss of around 600,000 Americans and 4 million deaths around the world. He has advised making vaccination mandatory at the local level. He further added that people are worried about the efficacy and safety of the vaccines as they are administered only for emergency purposes. Fauci has also mentioned the importance of vaccines and their safety. The vaccines are fully approved with every I’s crossed and T’s crossed.

Briefing on the boosters by Pfizer

Experts are also concerned about the boosters along with the vaccines.

Company spokesperson and two administration officials have confirmed to CNN that Pfizer gave a briefing about the boosters to US government officials today evening. A senior health official informed them that the meeting is seen as federal guidance for now and will not be seen as compulsory.

Pfizer/BioNTech have dwelled upon the boosters and stated last week that people might need them in six months to a year after observing the decline in immunity after the vaccination shots.

Further, the company added that they will be seeking permission in August for the use of boosters from the US Food and Drug Administration.

On the other hand, some experts are not in favour of boosters.

FDA, NIH (National Institutes of Health), and CDC are involved in various scientific processes on the necessity of the boosters. The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention and FDA have made comments that the population who are fully vaccinated doesn’t need boosters.

Dr Fauci told Jake Tapper from CNN that people will not need a third shot after the two jabs of Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines and one shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The superimposition of the booster is not necessary. He also added that several studies are going on regarding the recommendation of boosters. In CNN’s “State of the Union”, Fauci is against the use of boosters at this point in time.
