The total number of deaths related to the COVID-19 pandemic in the U. S is about to surpass 500,000 by the end of this week, resulting in the country to be still at the topmost position to have the highest in the world.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and infectious diseases, said that this is historic to reach this number. The country never went through like this in the last 102 years after the 1918 influenza pandemic.
COVID-19: The U.S Is About To Surpass 500,000 Deaths
He remarked that currently the U.S is in a terrible condition and they don’t want this to get much worse than it already is. This is the reason why they keep on insisting the public follow the preventive measures, he added.
The Johns Hopkins University’s data said that in the U.S, more than 498,700 people have died from COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the data from the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation indicated that there are another 91,000 people in America on the verge of death by June 1, due to the pandemic.
A White House official said that if the threshold is crossed, the president will deliver his remarks and hold a candle lighting ceremony.
The figures related to the deaths and hospitalizations after COVID-19 had shown a slight but remarkable drop during the last few days. This made some of the state and local leaders withdraw a few restrictions. However, the present figures in COVID-19 can be even frustrating, since the country is at threat of the more contagious variants of the coronavirus.
Experts said that the presence of these deadlier variants will make it difficult to increase the safety measures to prevent yet another catastrophe after the post-holiday surge.
The IHME team wrote that the way individuals would respond to the steady declines in the daily cases and deaths determine the trajectory of the pandemic over the coming four months. By April, many states in the country would face more rapid increases in cases and deaths since the preventive measures are started to get loosened by the public.
Currently, the U.S is detecting more and more cases of highly contagious variants from across the country. The IHME’s report said that out of the total number of coronavirus contractions, roughly 20% accounts for the U.K variant. Exports also warned that this average can be shifted to 80% by the end of April.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also came up with their reports. It indicated a rapid growth of the U.K strain across the country and said that it would become predominant in the country by next month.
However, it is hopeful that the U.K variant’s spread can be prevented with masking, following social distancing measures, and receiving the vaccine doses once they are available.
