Dwayne Johnson has been vocal about the journey he and his team took to bring Black Adam to the big screen. It’s been a decade-long journey in the making, and obviously there were hopes of making the character a franchise. However, those hopes appear to be dead…at least for now.
Johnson accepted Twitter on December 20th to post a note about Black Adam’s future. He said he’s met with James Gunn and that Black Adam won’t be in the “first chapter of the storytelling”. That likely means there are no plans to bring Black Adam into the DCU in the future. However, Johnson tries to give things a positive spin by saying, “DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be used in future chapters of the DC Multiverse.”
The way Johnson brings up the “multiverse” is fascinating. It suggests Gunn and Safran are building a cohesive film lineup, but Black Adam could potentially exist outside of that. After all, a sequel to Joker is in the works, and that will likely remain its own separate thing from other DC projects. So there you have it; Don’t expect Black Adam 2 any time soon, if it happens at all.
