New solution will streamline retail pharmacies
workflow and give them valuable time to spend with patients
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 25, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — FDB (First Databank, Inc.), a leading provider of pharmaceutical knowledge that helps healthcare professionals make accurate decisions, today launched FDB NavigoTM, a cloud-based solution brought to market. Provides an intelligent, holistic approach to clinical advice on drug safety risks. FDB Navigo provides retail pharmacists with targeted, coordinated and actionable clinical guidance at the optimal time in their workflow.
FDB will become FDB Navigo August 27-29, 2022 at the NACDS TSE Conference in Boston, Mass.
FDB has developed FDB Navigo in collaboration with a leading pharmacy chain over the past three years. It streamlines retail pharmacists’ workflow by changing the focus of drug safety alerts and changing the way those alerts are presented and processed. In particular, FDB Navigo provides the pharmacist with actionable guidance based on the key risks to the patient as reflected in the patient’s clinical records in the pharmacy system. In addition, FDB Navigo consolidates appropriate information from all key clinical areas – including drug interactions, allergies, precautions and dosing information – to eliminate the current “siled” approach that requires retail pharmacists to access each clinical area. Warnings must be considered within. Solutions can also learn from previous actions taken by pharmacists – for example, eliminating warnings on refill prescriptions when they have already been covered in a previous fill.
FDB Navigo helps retail pharmacists determine the “next best step” for each patient, whether it’s filling prescriptions, providing additional instructions for the patient, or following up with the patient’s doctor. To provide further support, FDB Navigo identifies therapeutic options when available based on patient risk and provides pharmacists with a written description that can be used when advising a patient or discussing an intervention with a physician. These innovations are helping to standardize the actions of pharmacists across pharmacies to better ensure patient safety and improve the pharmacist, provider and patient experience.
FDB Navigo helps retail pharmacists significantly reduce the number of notifications they receive to ease their cognitive load. Unlike legacy clinical screening solutions, this new solution helps retail pharmacists who are taking on expanded roles in patient care to more easily identify and respond to drug risks relevant to individual patients to improve patient safety. We do it. Ultimately, FDB Navigo gives retail pharmacists more time and cognitive space to consult with patients and provide more primary care.
“As retail pharmacists take on more responsibilities than filling prescriptions and providing general advice on drug procurement, the demand for their time and energy has increased,” said FDB President Bob Cater. “FDB is pleased to offer a transformative clinical consultation solution to help pharmacists meet these needs and practice in addition to their licenses to best meet the health and safety needs of their patients. “
Many retail pharmacies now offer a wide range of patient care services, e.g. B. Vaccinations; testing for HIV, COVID-19 and other diseases; prescription of certain medications; conducting mental health research; educating patients about health protection measures; and providing medication adherence and drug therapy management programs for patients with chronic diseases. Given this new role 92% of patients see their pharmacist as a healthcare provider,
Although retail pharmacists are increasingly serving patients directly, a recent survey found that they spend only 10% of their time advising patients. In addition, the same survey found that 75% of chain retail pharmacists and 53% of independent retail pharmacists believe they should dedicate more time to patient counseling and drug therapy management.
FDB Navigo can help retail pharmacists free up time for these vital services. Real-world pharmacy data collected during the development of the FDB Navigo solution shows that 30% to 50% of the alerts that pharmacists currently need to review can be eliminated. Once FDB Navigo is fully deployed, retail pharmacists can expect a significant reduction in alert volume.
Chirag Patel, Senior Product Manager, FDB, said: “FDB Navigo provides patient-specific context for clinical guidance to ensure drug safety, prescription history, prior warning results and universal drug schedules. This product development approach, reflected in other solutions in FDB’s PatientFirst™ suite, helps retail pharmacists make more accurate, evidence-based decisions.”
