Kali was four years old and therefore ineligible for vaccination, but her mother Karra didn’t get the shot. She was against taking the Covid-19 vaccine. Young children are not eligible for the vaccine as of now.

Karra describes her daughter as funny and sassy. She says, “ Kali loved to play worms and frogs and would avoid wearing bows.” Kali’s death is the youngest reported Covid-19 death in the district.

Deaths caused by Covid-19 among children are rare. However, the Delta variant is affecting children majorly. Coronavirus infection among children is spreading rapidly.

The Delta variant being the most contagious of all the variants so far: is affecting children majorly. Severe illness and deaths among children caused by Covid-19 are still rare.

The September report from the American Academy of Pediatrics shows that among the total Covid-19 cases, children account for 0-0.27%. Out of all child cases reported, 0-0.03% resulted in deaths.

According to experts, the United States is having an exponential increase in the number of child cases.

In another similar case, a five-year-old boy from Georgia died in July. And a child under the age of five died; in Orange County of California this week.

26.8% of the total Covid-19 cases in the United States are child cases. The country reported the highest number of child cases last.

An eleven-year-old girl died due to Covid-19 in Texas, just days after attending school. She was not eligible for a vaccination shot. The girl’s lungs were majorly affected. She needed constant support for breathing.

The infected children can have long-term health issues. The consequences of the virus can be physical, emotional, and mental.

As many as five million children have contracted the virus since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Gov. of Texas banned mask requirements in schools. The ban is causing a higher number of hospitalizations among Covid-19 infected children. Texas has the highest number of hospitalized children.

The White House is investigating the ban on mask mandates. Several states in the US have imposed a ban on mask mandate. Children under 12 years are ineligible for vaccination. The children are thus at higher risk of getting infected as they return to the in-person classrooms.

The rise in child cases is a matter of concern for the United States. The majority of the schools are now opening for the in-person classroom.

The young children being ineligible for vaccination are therefore at higher risk.
