Given how much Futurama focuses on exploring the technologically advanced world of the 31st century, it makes sense that Apple would appear in an episode or two. It’s one of the largest technology companies in the world today and has created more than a few groundbreaking innovations in communications, home entertainment and more. At the same time, it’s just another big company that a lot of people have some level of knowledge about and, in many cases, strong feelings about. Thus, it became a prime candidate for Futurama to use to its comedic advantage.
As compiled by Engadget, “Futurama” has referenced Apple a whopping 19 times to date. The first mention came in the second episode of the debut season entitled “The Series Has Landed” and the last in “Forty Percent Leadbelly” of the seventh season. A total of 19 mentions doesn’t seem like much considering Futurama amassed 140 episodes in its day, but finding so many unique jokes based around a company and its products is certainly admirable. Granted, some ended up better than others, but that ultimately comes down to personal taste.
As the wait for Futurama’s comeback season continues, it’s safe to assume that the show is unlikely to miss any more Apple equity opportunities in its upcoming episodes.
