Cline explained that before filming began, she was meeting with director Rian Johnson and co-star Edward Norton at the production office when Daniel Craig walked in out of nowhere. “He was so nice of course,” she said, “he’s a sweetheart, but I was really impressed and had to run away.”
However, it seems that Cline got over it, saying that she “just wanted to take everything I could from them.” “They are both generous people and actors,” she explained. “But how free they all are. We’re here to play and to create, and that’s exactly what we did.”
Cline also said she admires Kathryn Hahn, who plays corrupt Connecticut Gov. Claire Debella, especially her ability to not take things too seriously. Hahn, of course, recently had her own breakthrough in her scene-stealing turn in WandaVision, with an Agatha Harkness spin-off in the works.
Another Benoit Blanc mystery is also on the way. Johnson is already writing the third film, and there’s speculation there might be room to bring back previous characters (via Harper’s Bazaar). Whether this means Cline will have another chance to repeat Whiskey and whether she will have another chance to be overwhelmed by Daniel Craig is impossible to say at this point.
