In Dortmund, City Ring is now using a private protection service against the homeless and drug addicts. Criticism comes from a club.
Dortmund – Retail has been suffering for some time and job vacancies are piling up all over the city. Dirty entrance doors and even dirt before the shop opens do not encourage potential customers to shop. The “Cityring” coalition is now countering this problem with private security forces and is thus exposed to criticism.

Dortmund City Ring starts security service in consultation with the city
“CityRing” is an amalgamation of various companies in Dortmund. Members include Thier-Gallery and Sparksey Dortmund. According to the website, as an initiative group it stands for “more attractive cities”. In agreement with the city of Dortmund, all members of the City Ring are now provided with a private security service to monitor the condition of drug addicts and the homeless.
“In this way, he can carry out visual checks in the entrance area or private areas and, under certain circumstances, issue house bans. In addition, uniformed employees ensure additional safety for visitors to the city at night,” explains Tobias Hetmann, President of the Dortmund City Ring. Because the current situation is “extremely tense” for retailers. The entrances must be cleaned of used syringes, garbage and some feces in the morning. (More news from Dortmund on RUHR24).

The security service used was mediated by the city of Dortmund to the city ring road. The city is currently using it in Dortmund’s city gardens from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Then he controls the city center from 11 p.m. to 1 p.m. The number of homeless people in NRW has fallen for the first time in 10 years.
The homeless magazine Bodo sharply criticized the project
However, Bodo is concerned about the EV project. “Selecting the poorest people in the city so as not to disrupt the shopping experience may not be the answer to problems such as poverty, homelessness and addiction,” says Bastian Putter from Bodo. He also warned that homeless people could be indiscriminately evicted from their sleeping quarters in the middle of the night. “Does Dortmund really want to be known as the city where people in need are evicted because the sight of them interferes with shopping?”
CityRing emphasized to RUHR24 that this should not be a ruthless “We are doing a homeless and addiction campaign”. Rather, it is about helping people so that everyone in need gets an apartment. One of the plans is to distribute the passengers from the social welfare office. The city of Dortmund is also trying to improve the situation of the homeless through surveys.
