ROCHESTER, NY – US Attorney Trini E. Ross announced today that Michael Tayo, 34, of Liverpool, NY, who was convicted of bank robbery and attempted bank robbery, was sentenced to 100 months in prison by US District Judge David G. Larimer. was convicted. ,
Caitlin M. Hartford, the Assistant US Attorney handling the case, said that Tayo robbed a bank in Brighton, NY, within four days in August 2019; a bank in Buffalo, NY; and tried to rob a third bank in Niagara Falls, NY:
• On August 24, 2019, Tayo robbed a Citizens Bank at Topps Market on South Clinton Avenue in Brighton. Tayo gave the bank clerk a detailed note that said, “If I see even one die pack, I will not hesitate to escalate the situation and you will be the first victim.” The bank clerk complied with Tayo’s demands and gave him American currency, which Tayo took and fled the bank.
• On August 27, 2019, Tayo robbed a second Citizens bank at Topps Market on South Park Avenue in Buffalo. He gave the bank clerk a note demanding $50 and $100 bills and threatening violence. The note said he would use his gun if the cashier didn’t cooperate. Teller complied and gave the defendant American currency, which Tayo took and fled the bank.
• Also on August 27, 2019, Toyo attempted to rob a third bank, Key Bank, on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Niagara Falls. However, when he gave Taylor a reminder, Taylor said they were dealing with a computer problem and Tyo failed to receive any money.
The conviction is the result of an investigation conducted by the Brighton Police Department led by Special Agent-in-Charge Stephen Belongia, Chief Dave Catholdi and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
