One of the Netflix directors of One Piece has released an update on the production of the anticipated live-action TV show One Piece.

One Piece has established itself as one of the most successful series in the anime industry. It will soon be released on Netflix in a whole new medium. In case you didn’t know, creator Eiichiro Oda is working with Netflix on a live-action adaptation of One Piece.

So far 10 episodes have been commissioned. It’s being developed by Tomorrow Studios and publisher Shueisha, the same companies that brought you the Netflix version of Cowboy Bebop.

Filming on the project has already begun and one of its directors has now provided an important update on the series.

The message from Netflix director One Piece

Marc Jobst caught the attention of One Piece fans Twitter when he tweeted a unique tribute to the anime series. The episode director and executive producer have apparently completed their work on the Netflix production of One Piece. They commemorated their work with a series of images taken on location in South Africa. Jobst loved the Straw Hat team.

The director wrote:

“Farewell, South Africa. Land of sun, hard work, little creatures that come to visit every day and mountains that took my breath away every day. Thank you to the incredibly talented crew who helped bring this show to life. Now for the next step… the cut.”

Marc Jobst

Jobst is happy with One Piece as you can see above. Apparently his work is far from done. The director still has to bring the episodes he has overseen to the editing room. Jobst is now managing two episodes of One Piece.

This is according to Netflix, although that number could change. The show’s other directors were kept under wraps, leaving Jobst to deal with any viewer questions. Netizens are growing impatient to see the Straw Hat team in action as One Piece continues to film. If some final changes are approved shortly, Netflix could have something to show at its big June presentation.

One Piece live action: what we know so far

Over 1,000 chapters and 95 volumes of One Piece have been published. This has been since its debut in an issue of Weekly Shonen Jump on July 22, 1997, and the manga is currently ongoing. One Piece is also one of the most popular manga series of all time. One Piece has sold out titles like Naruto and Dragon Ball.

The live-action One Piece has yet to receive an official release date from Netflix. However, the digital platform released a statement from the author of the series, Eiichiro Oda, on their official twitter account.

The update suggests efforts are being made for a Netflix One Piece release date: “This show will take a little longer to complete, but we will continue to do our best to deliver a show that we believe in.” to be enjoyed by everyone around the world! Stay tuned for more updates in the future!”

Netflix production teaser of One Piece

Production Weekly announced in January 2022 that production of the live-action One Piece will begin spring/summer of that year. The location should be in South Africa. Showrunner Steven Maeda teased about the start of production on the show with a snap towards the end of the month:

On February 1, 2022, Netflix also announced that filming of the live-action series One Piece had begun.

A pirate ship was spotted on the set of the series in January 2022, and it appears to be Miss Love Duck. This is a warship with a gigantic duck head on top and piloted by the villain Alvida.

She is the first major opponent that Luffy encounters in the manga series and it seems that she will be introduced in the anime.
