The movie One Piece: Red is set to be one of the biggest movies in the Shonen franchise. The fifteenth feature film not only focuses on the reappearance of Shanks, but also on the debut of Shanks’ daughter Uta.

Featuring Uta, who is advertised as the “ultimate diva” with a voice that can change the world. One of the show’s biggest voice actors has taken the opportunity to reveal important information about the upcoming summer release.

Mayumi Tanaka: Luffy’s voice actor says One Piece: Red has finished filming

Oro Japan uploaded a picture of a recent interview with Mayumi Tanaka, Luffy’s voice actress. She relayed the information that the voice recording session for the film was complete.

Tanaka nearly spilled the beans on whether or not Shanks ended up running into his old student again:

Several One Piece films took the opportunity to narrate significant storylines from the Shonen series’ past. Recent films took the opportunity to break new ground.

Creator Eiichiro Oda has starred in most of the films that make it to the big screen. One Piece: Red is poised to have some big consequences for the future of the Grand Line. This is because Shanks has not met Luffy since the beginning of the series.

While a reunion between Luffy and Shanks in this film has yet to be confirmed, there are many reasons to believe the two swashbucklers will cross paths again.

Is One Piece: Red Canon in the franchise?

Without going too deep into the current events of the manga, the latest revelation about Luffy and his devil fruit puts Shanks’ early ownership of it in a whole new perspective.

Additionally, he had considerable influence over the Five Elders during the Reverie, which may provide an important clue as to how to piece all of these puzzles together. But only if it is accepted into the official canon.

It’s not unthinkable that a close relative is introduced but never mentioned again, but it’s also not something One Piece as a whole does. Once a personality emerges, fans can expect to see them again (even if it’s just a small appearance).

Until recently, the majority of these films contained unique plots. This was also the case in previous One Piece films. Despite being stories from the series’ original creator, Eiichiro Oda, each film was a unique, self-contained adventure that, in most cases, was not covered in the series’ official canon.

They may appear in anime from time to time, but it’s quite uncommon for them to flesh out something in manga.

That could change with One Piece Film: Red, which is already promising big changes to what we understand about Red-Haired Shanks.
