Pfizer Proved To Be Highly Effective In Preventing Covid

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveal that the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine is about 93 percent effective in preventing Covid-19 hospitalization among children aged 12 to 18.

The effectiveness differed only slightly for other age groups, with 91 percent for children aged 12 to 15 and 94 percent for children aged 16 and 18.

Pfizer Proved To Be Highly Effective In Preventing Covid

The study conducted by CDC involved about 464 patients. Out of these, about 179 patients were hospitalized due to Covid-19, and 285 were hospitalized due to other reasons.

These patients were hospitalized in about 19 pediatric hospitals located in 16 different states.

Pfizer Proved To Be Highly Effective In Preventing Covid

The study took place from June to September in the year 2021, when the highly contagious Delta variant was dominant.

Out of all the patients considered for the study, 72 percent had one prevailing health condition, and approximately 68 percent went to schools for in-person learning. Most of the patients were from the Southern states. It is since during these months- the Covid-19 transmission rate was very high in the Southern states.

The study, however, undertook only fully vaccinated citizens. The citizens who got their second Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine at least 14 days before the illness was considered to be fully vaccinated. Those who received only their first shot or had their second dose within less than 14 days were excluded from the study.

The analysis shows that out of the total 179 hospitalized patients due to Covid-19, about 97 percent were unvaccinated. It was clear that all of the severely ill patients were unvaccinated. About 77 of these patients had to be admitted to an Intensive Care Unit. And nearly 29 were sent under life support during their hospitalization. Unfortunately, 2 of them also lost their lives.

The CDC data shows that from 13 months, more than 65,000 children in the United States had to be hospitalized due to Covid-19. More than 700 of the American children infected with the deadly Covid-19 virus even lost their lives.

Now, as a ray of hope, the trial data from Pfizer-BioNTech shows that its Covid-19 vaccine is 100 percent effective against preventing Covid-19 hospitalization among children aged 12 to 15. Along with it, it proves to be highly effective at reducing the risk of hospitalization among children of age 12 to 18.

CDC states that until now, 46 percent of the children aged 12 to 15 have received both their doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. Apart from it, 54 percent of those aged 16 to 17 have received both their vaccine shots.

The study authors said that the results of the analysis reveal that vaccination is highly effective and crucial in protecting adults from the deadly Covid-19 virus. They added, ” Study reveals that increasing the vaccination rate among this age group proves to be very effective in reducing infection of Covid-19 virus in the United States.

“Vaccination comes out as an effective tool for the American youth as more schools are now open for in-person learning. The study authors say that a high rate of vaccination among adults paired with other preventive measures against the virus can prove to be highly fruitful.
