Pfizer’s Covid-19 Vaccine For Kids In Just A Matter Of Days

Kids under 12 in America may soon get their vaccine shots against the Covid-19 virus.

Pfizer-BioNTech received authorization for its booster doses last week from both the FDA and the CDC. The company now announces its vaccine for kids, which is yet to receive approval from the FDA and CDC.

This announcement brings hope as the highly vulnerable group of people will now receive vaccines.

The kids under 12 are at higher risk of infection as most schools are now open for in-person learning. The highly contagious Delta variant is severely dangerous for kids.

Pfizer chairman and CEO Albert Boura said, ” within a few days, we will be applying for the approval.”

The company plans to submit its data to the FDA regarding the Covid-19 vaccine for kids aged five to eleven.

So far, Covid-19 vaccines are only available for adults above 12. It creates concern among experts as the number of cases among children is increasing.

The contagious Delta variant is dynamically spreading among children and adults. Reopening of schools and the start of new semesters increases the risk over the kids under 12.

According to recent data released by the American Academy of Pediatrics, Over 26% of Covid-19 cases in the United States are in children.

The reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show striking statistics. According to the stats, an average of 266 children with Covid-19 were hospitalized daily last week.

Pfizer’s data regarding the kids’ Covid-19 vaccine must get authorization from the FDA and the CDC.

Dr. Jonathan says, ” if the data reaches us this week, our experts will be ready to discuss it towards the end of October.”

He added that there is a large amount of data to study and assess. The decision must be taken very carefully as it includes children.

Dr. Jonathan says the vaccine must have high efficacy, and with it must be completely safe.

Even after the approval of the Kids’ vaccine, it will be tough to convince parents to get their kids vaccinated. So far, less than 50% of eligible adults have received their dose of the vaccine.

Jonathan says it is now necessary to educate the public about the need and importance of the vaccine. We must make them understand that vaccines are a necessity for the well-being of their children and families.

Until there is any vaccine available for kids, the CDC advised school students and staff members to wear masks on the premises, as schools have reopened now. The organization also recommended improvement in ventilation in the premises and implementation of social distancing. Testing on a screening basis should also be in place, said the CDC. The CDC director, Dr. Walensky, says while making the announcement, ” We know ways to keep children safe, and if precautions are not in place, we will see another outbreak and this time among children.”

Covid-19 infected children are also facing long-term consequences. It makes the virus even more dangerous for the kids. Former FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb says, ” this virus is hazardous. Even more now as it is sure that it causes long-term consequences on the infected people.”
