Pintel and Ragetti are the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise’s stereotypical comedy duo, more akin to Abbott and Costello or Stan and Ollie than cold-blooded villains like Davy Jones or Blackbeard. Originally crew members aboard the Black Pearl under Jack Sparrow, they take part in the mutiny that deposes Sparrow and installs Barbossa as the new captain. Afterwards, Pintel and Ragetti—like every remaining member of Pearl’s crew—fall victim to the cursed treasure of Cortés, turning them into skeletal immortals constantly on the brink of death from starvation and dehydration.
During the first film in the series, The Curse of the Black Pearl, Pintel and Raghetti appear as supporting antagonists, helping Barbossa hunt down Will, Elizabeth, and Sparrow in order to break the curse and return to her normal selves. While they are basically lackeys and are rarely taken seriously by their fellow combatants, Pintel and Ragetti still show themselves as vicious and ruthless killers when the situation calls for it, and relish the opportunity to fight Brits to shoot at Jack or to see Will being killed off the Isla de Muerta.
Like many characters on this list, Pintel and Ragetti eventually join Sparrow aboard the Black Pearl, making supporting cast appearances in “Dead Man’s Chest” and “At World’s End.” However, they occasionally commit treason, such as stealing the heart of Davy Jones from Sparrow, Will, and Norrington to sell for themselves.
