Rent-A-Girlfriend Live Action TV Show Story Summary
If you haven’t read the manga yet or watched the anime adaptation, the story begins when Kazuya Kinoshita is dumped by his girlfriend Mami Nanami on their one-month anniversary. Unpopular with the ladies for his indecisive personality, Kazuya decides to use an online dating app to find a temporary fake girlfriend and stumbles across Chizuru Mizuhara’s profile.
She appears to be a beautiful and attractive young woman, but he finds her behavior inauthentic and gives her a low rating on the dating app’s website. When Kazuya next meets up with Chizuru, she reveals that she is not as sweet and reserved as she acted and scolds him for giving her a low rating.
When Kazuya’s grandmother collapses one day and is hospitalized, he decides to take Chizuru with him. His grandmother is immediately taken with Chizuru and thinks she is the perfect friend for Kazuya.
Due to his grandmother’s approval of Chizuru, Kazuya is forced to continue renting Chizuru to make it appear to his family and friends that he has a girlfriend. Through a strange twist of fate, they find out that they actually live next to each other and attend the same college. The story gets more complex when other girls from the online dating app are included in her life.
