Southington – The Apple Harvest Festival road race has been an autumn tradition in Southington for 43 years and the race is always looking to add new aspects to its schedule, which takes place on October 2nd.
This year, the Southington Community YMCA launched a new partnership with the Southington Chamber of Commerce, and the two have teamed up for the new Chamber Corporate Cup – a new category at this fall’s Apple Harvest Festival road race.
Local companies and agencies will register and compete as a ‘company team’ in the 5K road race. The team with the lowest time average of three runners wins the Chamber Corporate Cup trophy. There is also a trophy for the male runners and a trophy for the female runners. Also, the top three males and females in the Chamber Corporate Cup Division will receive medals.
Apple Harvest Festival street racing director John Myers said: “My son (Jack) works in New York City and he told me he was going to join his company team for a street race and I said, ‘We should do that “We’re excited about this and we know the chamber is excited to create some unity and a sense of community. We look forward to a good response.”
The cost is $30, and $10 of the registration fee goes back to support the Southington Chamber of Commerce’s community outreach programs and services.
Those interested in participating in the Chamber Corporate Cup should contact John Myers at [email protected] or (860) 919-1193 to incorporate their business.
