In Salt and Sacrifice there are 12 crimes to choose from: alchemy, arson, blasphemy, brigantry, drunkenness, forgery, heresy, lasciviousness, smuggling, ostentation, usury and vagrancy. Each of them grants an item bonus, some of which provide an effect that can be used throughout the game. At first glance, Brigantry seems to be the best option. The included Cutthroat’s Dager is an equippable item that increases the character’s maximum stamina. This is clearly a useful perk, especially for assassins and other dexterity-focused classes. It can be especially helpful in the early game, before players have had a chance to level up their character. Unfortunately, the decision is a bit more complicated than just picking the best effect.
The Forged Deed, Krine Tablet, Lock of Hair, Signal Lantern, and Wooden Dummy do not grant any special bonus effect, but are listed as key items, meaning they are required to unlock certain areas or to progress certain quest lines. Players can obtain these through forgery, heresy, lasciviousness, smuggling, and vagrant crimes. It is not yet known which areas and quests are associated with these key items, but the rewards for completing them could be more valuable in the long run.
