After turmoil and misadventure, all ends well for Pinocchio, Geppetto, Spazzatura and Sebastian as they spend the rest of their lives (except for Pinocchio) in Geppetto’s tiny home. If you look closely, you can spot a little memento from the course of the film, one that’s heartwarming to see Geppetto saved. On the mantel over the fire, the “farewell letter” left by Pinocchio when he left for the Volpe Carnival is visible, framed and well preserved after many years.
The “note” is of course just the drawing of a smiling sun, which also stands for Pinocchio’s signature. During the montage, Pinocchio can also be seen reading a book of children’s stories to Geppetto. Hopefully he has long since overcome his aversion to going to school and learned to write properly. In any case, it’s nice to see the farewell framed as a sign of happy resolutions, even if it led directly to Geppetto being swallowed by a dogfish.
