The 9-euro ticket encourages those who have not yet done so to take the bus and train. But trips are only made because of the offer – not only a burden on the climate.

Berlin. According to a new survey, the 9-euro ticket attracts many people to buses and trains who have never or only used local public transport. Around 20 percent of the ticket buyers surveyed stated that they had never used public transport, as reported by the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV).
As with Deutsche Bahn, around 6,000 consumers in the association asked for 9-euro tickets every week. Some questions are specific to certain ticket holders.
It also shows that the €9 ticket invites you to take trips that would not have been made without the offer. About 25 percent of shoppers surveyed said so. “This significant increase in demand must be critically examined with regard to climate protection and system load,” says Oliver Wolff, Managing Director of the VDV.
However, six percent of the journeys would have been made with other means of transport outside of public transport – in more than half of the cases by car.
Around 30 million in June had a ticket of 9 euros
With the special ticket, passengers can use public transport throughout Germany in June, July and August for nine euros per month. In total, more than 30 million people had tickets in June, said Wolff. Interest rates will also remain the same in July.
“But this combined success from politics and business also increases the pressure on the latter – in terms of prices, but above all in terms of service costs,” it said.
