In the Season 3 episode of Arrested Development entitled “Exit Strategy,” Richard Belzer has a brief but highly memorable appearance as Detective Munch. He is part of a law enforcement ploy trying to trick Tobias (David Cross) into revealing Bluth’s family secrets. As part of the operation, Munch takes on the nickname of Professor Munch, who teaches a fake scrapbooking class, in hopes that Tobias will include some sensitive family documents in his graduation project.
Munch’s sense of humor always showed in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, even in some of the darkest episodes. Seeing the actor play a devious cop who easily fools Michael Bluth’s (Jason Bateman) brother-in-law is a whole new level of silliness for Munch. Arrested Development aside, Munch has made cameos on shows like The X-Files, The Wire, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, so Belzer is clearly an expert at balancing a police detective’s seriousness with some lighthearted humor ( via IMDb).
