The unfilmed scene is viewed by Ryan Meinerding, Head of Visual Development at Marvel Studios. The graphic shows an early concept design from Avengers: Endgame, in which Iron Man, Spider-Man, War Machine and Rescue fly together into battle. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo planned to include the moment in the film’s final fight after the Avengers revived all of the heroes. It’s unclear why they never filmed the scene, but it would have given Team Iron Man one last moment together before Tony Stark’s legendary sacrifice. It’s perhaps for the best that the moment didn’t make it to the big screen, because we can’t even begin to imagine the emotion behind Iron Man’s death when we see him fight alongside the heroes he brought to the MCU.
Perhaps one day the scene will see its fruits on the big screen. Marvel Studios has a daunting task of topping the spectacle of Avengers: Endgame with Avengers: Secret Wars, and the return of Iron Man would certainly help with that. Since the multiverse is at the heart of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, it wouldn’t take much to bring the character back through a multiverse variant. Watching Robert Downey Jr fight alongside Team Iron Man is a way to make the moment more emotional than it could have been in Endgame. The actor recently told Deadline that there are a lot of things he misses from his time in the MCU, so it would probably just take a massive check from Marvel Studios to bring him back one last time.
