In Avatar: The Way of Water, Kiri (Sigourney Weaver) has a vision after connecting with the Metkayina spirit tree. Not long after, she suffers a seizure and has to be brought back to the surface. dr Norm Spellman (Joel David Moore) and Dr. Max Patel (Dileep Rao) then meets with Kiri and her family and administers medicine. The only problem is that it doesn’t seem to work; Then Ronal (Kate Winslet) enters the shack with all-natural medicine and seems upset that the Na’vi are trusting humans with the child’s welfare.
The humans eventually step aside and allow Ronal to use their treatments, which take time to work. The message of the sequence seems clear – Western medicine had no effect on the young girl, but natural remedies worked well. The film seems to prefer promoting holistic medicine over more advanced methods and that creates problems in a post-COVID world.
