The role Bauer is probably best known for to most viewers is one of his first and best as Manny Ribera, Tony Montana’s (Al Pacino) best friend and second hand. He follows Montana in his rise to power as a drug lord, but the two come into conflict when Ribera begins to see Montana’s sister and Montana begins to go insane with power. Bauer provides some of the film’s biggest laughs, and his on-screen charisma is evident from the start.

Bauer didn’t have as prominent a role as Pacino, but he’s arguably remembered from the film just as well. He even reprized his role for the 2006 video game sequel, Scarface: The World Is Yours.

Directed by Brian De Palma and written by Oliver Stone, the film is based on a 1930 novel by Armitage Trail and serves as a remake of a 1932 film of the same name 1983 film has stood the test of time more than its peers.
