Clara Brewer hails from Miles City, Montana, a town steeped in Old West history and equestrian culture. Lilli Kay’s hometown of Brooklyn may have fewer cowboys, but the actress has plenty of horseback riding experience. “I’ve been riding and working with horses since I was about six years old,” Kay said in an appearance on The Official Yellowstone Podcast.
For Kay, being part of a series that allowed her to revive her old hobby was the icing on the cake. “Obviously I’ve moved away from anywhere I would have access to it. And so it had been for a second, and that was just the greatest joy. I grew up training and doing all these good things so it was really a dream come true to do that [horse riding] at this job.” Kay shows off her horseback riding skills in Season 5 Episode 5 entitled “Watch ’em Ride Away” when she joins a team of ranch hands on a camping trip.
